Mashpee has had an approved plan for nitrogen mitigation for four years. What we haven’t had is a plan for how to pay for it. Our committee has spent a lot of time on this subject and we’d like to share what we’ve learned about the key financial decisions we’ll have to make as a town. Topics will include:
- Estimated costs of the plan, especially Phase I
- Financing strategies
- Long-term sources of wastewater funding including the Massachusetts revolving fund and the Cape Cod & Islands Water Protection Fund
- Other sources of financing for environmental remediation
Financing is at the center of the current debate on moving forward on mitigation.
